Q. How do I apply for Scholarships?

Students interested in applying for Scholarships / Financial Aid under any category will need to submit the recommended application form of BRAC University, available at the information desk, and the online application form, along with a photocopy of the advising form and grade sheet.

Q. How do I qualify for a Merit Based Scholarship?

To be eligible for a Merit Based Scholarship, you must have a GPA of 5.0 (without a 4th subject) in SSC and HSC from Science, Arts & Commerce groups or 7 ‘A’s in ‘O’ Level (in one sitting) and 3 ‘A’s in ‘A’ Level or 6 ‘A’s in ‘O’ Level (at a maximum of two sittings) and 2 ‘A’s and 1 ‘B’ in ‘A’ Level.

Q. How do I qualify for a Performance Based Scholarship?

After completion of 30 credits at BRACU, if you have obtained a minimum CGPA of 3.70 on a scale of 4, you can apply for a Performance Based Scholarship.

Q. Is there a separate exam for financial assistance?

There is no separate test for those applying for financial assistance.

Q. How can I apply for the Financial Aid under BRAC Scholarship?

BRAC Scholarship is offered to meritorious students from disadvantaged financial backgrounds. Top priority is given to students whose yearly family income is not more than Tk. 240,000/- (Taka Two Lac and Forty Thousand only). You must secure an application form and submit it within the deadline announced by the Scholarship Committee.

Q. Typically, what are the deadlines for BRAC Scholarship and Need Based Scholarship?

Usually applications for BRAC Scholarship (except freshers) and Need Based Scholarship are initiated after the mid-term exam. Missing a deadline can mean missing out until the next semester. Applications submitted past the deadline are usually not considered.

Q. What if my family’s Financial situation changes while I am attending BRACU?

If you have completed 9 credits with a CGPA of 3.25, you may request financial assistance at any time to accommodate significant changes in your family’s financial situation. You must apply for financial aid each semester.

Q. What Scholarships are available to transfer students?

At BRACU, transfer students are eligible for all Scholarships/Financial Aid that are offered to regular BRACU students. Scholarships are generally awarded at the beginning of the semester.

Q. What Scholarships are available to graduate students?

Graduate students can apply for the same Scholarships/Financial Aid that are available to Undergraduate students.

Q. Can families who already have BRAC scholars still apply for Financial Aid?

Yes, an incoming freshman who has an older brother or sister (alumni) who has enjoyed scholarships may apply for financial aid under BRAC Scholarship or Need Based Scholarship.

Q. If I didn’t get a scholarship this semester, can I still apply the following semester?

Yes. Students are granted scholarships from the first semester depending on the category they opt to apply for and the availability of funds. For details, please visit:

Q. How do I apply for Children of BRAC Employee Scholarship?

Children of regular BRAC employees must submit both online and BRACU recommended Scholarships/Financial Aid forms.

Q. If I am eligible for a scholarship in multiple categories, can I apply for each of them?

Yes, if you are eligible you can apply for Scholarship under multiple categories.

Q. If I am eligible, can I change my category of award?

Yes, if the Scholarship Committee agrees, you can change your category, e.g. Merit Based to Need Based or vice versa.

Q. What is the policy for “Children of Freedom Fighters” Based Scholarship?

Having passed the admission test at BRACU, the children of Freedom Fighters will be eligible for a tuition fee waiver.

  • According to the instructions from the UGC, a total number of 3% students from those who completed registration with BRACU would be selected for tuition fee waiver.
  • If the total number of registered students exceeds 3%, then the selection would be considered based on the result of their admission tests.
  • Students under the scholarship for “Children of Freedom Fighters” category will have to pay other charges and residential semester fees. All applications will be verified for authenticity from the concerned ministry. Until the receipt of the verification of the certificates, the regular tuition fees need to be paid by the student. After due verification, the paid course fees will be reimbursed to the student by BRACU.
  • All applicants need to submit the following documents for verification:
     - Attested copy of ‘Shamoik Shonod’ or ‘BAMUSH Shonod’ of the freedom fighter.
     - Attested copy of Bangladesh Gazette of freedom fighters.
     - Attested copy of ‘Muktibarta’ of freedom fighters.
     - Attested copy of the National ID card of freedom fighters.
     - Attested copy of the birth certificate or SSC certificate of freedom fighters.
  • Students who obtain a minimum CGPA 3.25 in the semester will be eligible for renewal.
  • The policy is the same for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Is there any fee required to apply for BRACU Scholarships/Financial Aid?

All new applicants are required to pay TK. 400/- at the time of submission of the filled out form. No fees are required for renewal of the scholarship/financial aid.

Q. What are the prerequisites to continue the Scholarship?

The recommended CGPA and course load need to be maintained in the previous and current semesters.
